One of the charms of Alaska is its unpredictable weather, and Fairbanks is no exception. And we had a great time! And now I'm sharing these ideas in this blog post! I'll also cover some more general topics such as when to visit Fairbanks, what to wear while doing so and even why visit the place at all (other than the awesome attractions!) After doing some research, I found that there were actually quite a lot of things to do in Fairbanks. The city didn't seem to have the same appeal as Denali, the Kenai Peninsula or Valdez. All I can say is I am glad it was part of our package and that Holland American covered the cost. When I started planning our Alaska trip, I wasn't sure about visiting Fairbanks. On the way back we went past the lady who first started the riverboats year ago came out and waved. Then there was the Chena Village Living Museum where you could get off the boat and check it out. One of the stops on the left side of the boat was Trail Breaker Kennel, which was cool to see the dogs and how they are trained from the boat, there was a waterline take off on the right side of the plane. It has stops on both sides of the boat, so some stops you have to watch from a tv screen and some where on your side of the boat. This was a 3 hour tour that maybe went a KM or 2 down the river. About 5 mins later buses and buses arrive and everyone is lining up. But she told us the boat holds 900 people and it would close to full capacity (Discovery 3). We were talking to one of the employees and they said to sit on the left hand side. We arrived here and we walked the gift shop. This might be the biggest tourist trap I have ever take a tour. This was part of our tour package with Holland America.
